Managing Behaviour

Being a parent can be rewarding and fun but, at times, raising children can be challenging and stressful, and the responsibility to ‘get it right’ can feel overwhelming. From time to time, new behaviours creep in and perhaps the usual way of dealing with them aren’t making an impact.

In addition to support Portway families, Gemma delivers the Family Links Nurturing Programme which covers a range of topics including:

  • Understanding why children behave as they do
  • Recognising the feelings behind the behaviours (theirs and ours)
  • Exploring different approaches to discipline
  • The importance of looking after ourselves

This is open to all Portway parents and you don’t need to be having difficulties at home to access the course.

It is not a criticism on how you’ve parented so far, or a lecture on how to raise your child going forward. As children do not come with instructions and in the absence of a step-by-step guide to parenting, perhaps you’ll complete the course having found a new way to manage a behaviour or been comforted by other parents, knowing you’re not the only one. It is delivered in a very friendly, accessible way and always receives positive feedback from our parents.
