Year 2 SwimmingDear Parents/Carers We are incredibly lucky to have the chance to take Year 2 swimming this year as part of our PE lessons within the national curriculum. All Year 2 classes will be starting on Wednesday 4th June 2025. We will complete a 6 week block of swimming lessons, swimming once a week each Wednesday morning. We will be going to Andover Leisure Centre and the children will be taught by qualified leisure centre swimming teachers. We will be travelling to and from the leisure centre in minibuses. We are allocating our Sports Premium funding to cover the costs of the swimming teachers and the minibus travel, so there will not be a charge for swimming. Starting on Wednesday 4th June, after the May half term, all children will need to bring in a named bag with their swimming costume/trunks (not Bermuda shorts) and a towel. Their last swimming session will be on Wednesday 9th July 2025. Before the children begin their swimming lessons it would be helpful to know their water experience, so please complete the educational visit information and consent form via the link below. Sports Day09:15 - 10:15Dear Parents Sports Morning – Tuesday 17th June I am writing to inform you about the Sports Morning which will be held on the 17th June, weather permitting. The children will compete in House Teams (Red, Yellow and Blue) within their year groups. The children will all compete in a variety of races within their year groups before coming together as a whole school to compete in a flat running race and take part in prize giving. The Houses will be competing for one of 3 trophies based upon the Olympic and Paralympic values – The Excellence Cup for the overall winner of the morning, the Sportsmanship Award for the House that best demonstrates respect, friendship and inspiration and the cup for determination for the House that shows perseverance. The morning events will begin at 9:15am and finish in plenty of time for lunch. • Races will take place on the field. • A programme will come home listing the order of races for each year group and include a map of the site. • Each class will race separately on their year group track. We ask all spectators to remain on the outside of the tracks. Some chairs will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own and/or picnic rugs. Please make your way to this area before the races begin. The final running races will all take place on the Year 2 track. • Our last event of the morning will be a ‘toddler and pre-schoolers’ race followed by the presentation of the trophies. • When the races are complete we will take the children back to their classes to change. • If it is a sunny day please ensure you put sun cream on your child and provide them with a secure hat to wear. Please also ensure that your child has their water bottle in school. • Please can I take this opportunity to remind you that the children should have a full PE kit in school every day. This must include correctly fitting plimsolls or trainers (and socks if your child wears tights). If Sports Morning is postponed an email will be sent notifying parents and a revised date will be arranged. We will endeavour to make a decision by 8am on the day We hope as many of you as possible will be able to join us to enjoy our events. We look forward to seeing you on the 17th June. Osprey Trip to Charlton LakesDear Osprey Class Parents Our Year 2 classes have been invited to take part in this year’s free Wildlife Discovery Programme at Charlton Lakes. As part of our Science curriculum this year, we have been learning about habitats. Predominantly focussing on fresh water habitats, pupils will discover what lurks in the waters of Charlton Lakes, while learning more about the reserve and its inhabitants. The visit will take place on Thursday 19th June 2025. There is no charge for this trip. We will be walking, so please make sure your child has a coat. If it is sunny please ensure your child has applied sun cream and brings a hat to wear. Children will need to bring a pair of trousers or leggings to cover their legs. They will still need to wear their Portway jumper and polo shirt. School staff will walk with the children to Charlton Lakes, stay to support them and walk with them back to school in time for the end of the school day. Pick up time will be as usual at the classroom door. Please complete the Google Form attached to give consent for your child to take part. Due to the trip timings, Osprey children will need to order a picnic lunch for this day.
