Hello! My name is Kasey Longman and I am the current Chair of the Portway PTA.  On behalf of myself, our Vice Chair, Jayne Lee, our Treasurer, Oliver Hayden, and our Secretary, Cheryl Mitchell, we would like to send out a warm welcome to Portway! I know that some of you have other children and are familiar with us, and others are brand new to Portway. For those of you that have no idea who we are and what we do, I would like to take a minute to explain just that. In short, we are a group of parents and teachers that are responsible for fundraising and hosting events for both the Infants and Juniors schools. However, we like to think that we are much more than that.

When my eldest started Reception, I was brand new to the area, and brand new to Portway. I would ask him questions about his day, and would often get nothing back. I joined the PTA in order find out more about what was happening in school. In doing so, I found a really lovely group of parents and teachers that allowed me to get involved and feel connected to the school. The PTA was a great way to get involved and understand how Portway was run, get to know the amazing staff, and really help out and do some good.

I know that the traditional reputation of PTA’s is not always great. That is why we have worked really hard to overcome the PTA stereotype to make our group friendly, welcoming and stress-free. We are of opinion that everyone has something to offer, and would love to hear from you. I dare say that we even have some fun, or at the very least a good laugh.

It is important to note that we have an incredible staff backing us up 100%. Everyone from across the entire school fully supports what we do and facilitates any way that they can. We are so lucky, because this is not the case in every school. We would not be able to accomplish even half of what we do without this support and dedication.

We would love for you to join us! At least come along and see what we are about. We don’t ask for much, I promise.

And the important bit … HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We are happy for any and all help that we receive. Whether you attend a meeting, join our WhatsApp group, or have some ideas that you would like to share, we would love to hear from you.

If you can volunteer even just once, that would be tremendously appreciated. If one adult from each family at Portway volunteered just one time during the year, we would have more than enough to volunteers to run every event that we want! If you would like to get involved, please email us at

However, if volunteering is not possible, there are many other ways for you to get involved.
