1-1 Learning Support Assistant 

 

Portway Infant School are looking to recruit a very special person to join our hard working, committed happy team to work with and support a child with specified SEND on a 1-1 basis. 

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and energetic. They will have a passion for learning and a good understanding of how to support the development of the child as an independent and confident individual. The candidate needs to have a GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths and will be asked to provide evidence of all qualifications. 

This temporary position would suit an undergraduate planning to train as a teacher.

 The right candidate needs to be able to: 

  • Nurture, inspire, challenge and motivate children 
  • Have a calm, positive and resilient disposition 
  • Be reflective and have an understanding of the different ways that children express their needs 
  • Have a working knowledge of the curriculum and the ability to break down activities into small step teaching 
  • Provide modelling and scaffolding to support the child's interactions and learning whilst striving for the child’s independence 
  • Actively encourage the child's developing social and emotional skills 
  • Deliver tailored interventions drawn up in consultation with the SENDCo, class teacher or other professionals 
  • Implement clear boundaries and routines 
  • Provide close home/school liaisons 
  • Be a team player with a professional attitude towards the development of the school and a strong work ethic. 
  • Take appropriate responsibility for safeguarding and children’s welfare and be aware of confidential issues linked to home/child/teacher/school and keep confidences appropriately.
